CHILDREN at St Aloysius Parish School celebrated Father's Day early, with the school inviting the pupils' fathers and other ``special males in their lives'' along for a barbecue yesterday.
Children got to buy gifts at the school before fathers, uncles, grandfathers and others arrived for lunch and to spend time with the children.
Principal Maree Roache said it was great for fathers to come to the school. ``We don't often get a chance for dads to come down to the school,'' she said.
''`The children are so excited. They're eagerly excited for their dads to see where they work and where they play and to spend time with their dads.''
Ms Roache said that although some children had to ``borrow'' fathers for the day, everyone was enjoying it.
''There's dads in the sandpit, there's dads on the football oval, there's dads on the adventure playground,'' she said.
''It's a nice happy time. It's lots of fun.''
Shane Lucas, who has twins Alyssa and Brady in prep, and Shanae in year 6, said he enjoyed the chance to go along to the school
''I don't get here very often because I work nights and sleep during the day. It's good to get here and see what they're doing. They're pretty excited.''
Ms Roache said it was a longstanding tradition to celebrate Father's Day at the school and it was always an enjoyable time.
