BALLARAT’S vintage rail history will again hit the tracks this weekend as part of the annual Ballarat Heritage Weekend.

Steam trains dating back more than 120 years will be out on show and everybody will literally have a chance to get on board.
Train rides will run back and forth between Ballarat and Sulky all weekend, in what will be about a 50 minute round trip.
Only restored last year, the vintage locomotives first hit the tracks at last year’s Heritage Weekend.

Steam Rail Victoria Ballarat depot manager Ian Lloyd said they were the oldest running steam locomotives in Victoria.
The historic engines are the Y112 locomotive, built in Ballarat in 1889 and the 1940s-era K190.
“People are always fascinated by them, we usually get a very warm reception,” he said. “We can get about 200 people on each trip so that could be a few thousand people by the end of the weekend.”
Trips will depart the Ballarat Railway Station at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.
