THE future of Ballarat's pools took centre stage yesterday at the Town Hall.
Three public submissions were made as the city continued an assessment of council-owned pools.
Aquatic Strategy Working Group chairman Des Hudson said the submissions played an important role in developing future pool plans.
"I was very pleased with all three and thought they put forward some very good arguments," Cr Hudson said.
He said the submissions raised a number of issues and concerns surrounding the city's outdoor pools and the YMCA's indoor facility in Gillies St, Ballarat.
"Submissions touched on a range of issues including the importance of the Eureka swimming pool," Cr Hudson said.
He said while the review aimed to look at all of the city's aquatic facilities, council recognised the importance of the Eureka pool as a key outdoor venue.
He said yesterday's submissions would help the committee construct plans for the future of Ballarat's pools.
"The submissions were useful because they extended on the public forum of last Monday night.
"It forms a whole range of opinions as we continue to formulate our aquatic strategy."
He said the next stage of the review would include a detailed look at use of pools and visits to other regional centres to see their aquatic facilities.
"Following the submissions, the committee want to think through a lot of the issues that have been canvassed.
"We would also be looking to have some inspections of aquatic facilities outside Ballarat - at Geelong and Bendigo to name two.
He said aquatic centres needed to provide facilities that could accessed by all members of the community and meet the needs of Ballarat's growing population.
Cr Hudson said members of the public could make submissions to the review until Friday.
