Suspicious fire destroys unit at Warrenheip

07 Sep, 2010 11:12 AM
A UNIT was destroyed overnight after a fire at the Balwarren Motel at Warrenheip.

Fire crews were called to the scene on the Western Highway at 1.10am to find the unit engulfed, causing an estimated $100,000 damage.

VicFire spokeswoman Sophie Jackson said police were called to the scene and were expected to continue their investigations this morning.

She said they were treating the fire as suspicious.

A 70-year-old man was taken to Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital with smoke inhalation and was in a stable condition.

Six fire crews from Ballarat, Warrenheip and Bungaree brought the fire under control by 1.30am.

More to come.
