THIEVES targeted three Ballarat businesses on Wednesday night, with thousands of dollars of cash and property stolen.
Ballarat Police Acting Sergeant Dave Collins said it is believed the robberies, in Alfredton, Ballarat and Brown Hill, were connected.
"Alfredton Hair and Beauty had their front door smashed and two cash drawers, a tip tin and a TV stolen," he said.
"A barber shop on Humffray St Nth had the roller door forced and a glass door broken, but nothing stolen.
"And AJ's Take-Away on Victoria St had their glass door smashed, a TV taken, as well as cash from the till."
Police believe the value of goods taken from AJ's Take-Away to be worth more than $2000, but they are yet to determine the value of items taken from the beauty salon.
Alfredton Hair and Beauty manager Nikki Lorenzen said they were lucky the crime wasn't worse.
The salon had expensive styling appliances, such as hair dryers and straighteners, on the bench that weren't touched.
"We had no stock taken, it was just a smash-and-grab," she said.
"When the owner got the phone call last night, you just expect the worst, but we were fairly lucky.
"I was surprised by the about of glass everywhere from the shattered front door."
Ms Lorenzen also said the cords from the television, which was ripped from the wall, were still plugged in.
The salon's owner met with insurance company yesterday.
Despite the distance between the crimes, Acting Sgt Collins said police believed they were connected.
"I suppose if they spread out like they think that it's more difficult for us," he said.
"They're trying to keep us off their tails."
