A TREE fell on a car, several properties received roof damage and powerlines came down during a storm at Beaufort and Trawalla last night.
As the isolated storm came through about 8.15pm, a car carrying three people pulled over on the Western Highway, 10 kilometres east of Beaufort and a large tree tore down, landing on the car.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said the occupants were out of the car when paramedics arrived and they were checked at the scene. They were uninjured.
A one-kilometre stretch of the highway between Beaufort and Trawalla was blocked while State Emergency Service crews from Ararat and Ballarat cleared the road of trees and powerlines.
SES spokeswoman Natasha Duckett said there were reports of seven houses with roof and brick work damage.
The Bureau of Meteorology said the storm hit the area between Beaufort and Trawalla before heading south-west of Ballarat.
The wild weather is set to continue today and tomorrow, with possibly snow forecast across the state.
The Bureau expects widespread showers in the south-west today, becoming more extensive tomorrow with local hail and thunder, as a cold front sweeps across the state.
Temperatures today will be around 11 degrees, dropping to a chilly 7 degrees tomorrow, when snow is forecast in the western district above 700 metres.
Winds will reach up to 50kmh.
The Weather Channel meteorologist Tom Saunders predicted we would see one of the strongest cold fronts so far this year.
"The front will generate potentially damaging winds, heavy showers, thunderstorms and small hail across most of Victoria," Mr Saunders said.
More than 48 hours of windy weather is expected, strengthening today and remaining strong and possibly gale-force tomorrow, before easing on Monday afternoon.
Most of southern Victoria is expected to receive more than 10mm of rain.
