Trio charged over Ballarat robbery

A MAN and two women alleged to have stolen a woman's handbag before fleeing on a Melbourne-bound train last night will appear in Ballarat Magistrates' Court this morning charged with robbery.

The trio, aged between 30 and 40, were remanded in police custody overnight after being intercepted at Bacchus Marsh railway station just after 8pm.

Ballarat police Leading Senior Constable Mark Weber said the victim took friends to Ballarat Railway station about 7pm where they subsequently stole her handbag and wallet.

After removing the contents, they dumped the bag and fled on the train.

Police from both Ballarat and Bacchus Marsh intercepted the trio as they alighted the train at Bacchus Marsh.
