SPORTS facilities and water infrastructure work are among 11 projects nominated by Ballarat City Council for a federal funding program. All projects will each get a share of $1.577 million from the Federal Government's Regional and Local Community Infrastructure program. The projects were approved at an ordinary council meeting held last week. Ballarat City Council chief executive officer Anthony Schinck said the council got 39 project funding applications with a combined value of $8.25 million."Many extremely worthy community projects were put forward by a variety of groups," Mr Schinck said."Unfortunately funding for Ballarat was limited to $1.577 million, meaning some good projects could not be funded."He said the applications were considered by an independent panel comprised of council officers as well as Blueprint Committee and Central Highlands Area Consultative Committee representatives.Mr Schinck said that some projects could not be considered by the evaluation panel because they did not meet the program's guidelines or could not be delivered by the 30 September 2009 deadline. The funding program is part of the Federal Government's $250 million stimulus package announced last November.
