AN 18-YEAR-OLD woman who only had her licence for four months was caught driving 30kmh over the speed limit because she had a rough day.
Amy Phillips, 18, of Lysterfield, was speeding up to 147kmh in a 110kmh zone on the Western Hwy at Invermay in March this year.
The court heard Phillips was driving at high speeds in her parent's car, which police impounded for 48 hours and ordered her to pay $270.
Police prosecutor Acting Sergeant Clint Prebble said Phillips told police she had a fight with her father, had a bad day and was sorry for her actions.
Defence lawyer Kylie Maloney said Phillips accepted she was driving at high speeds, was unfamiliar with the vehicle and said she should have been paying attention to the speedometer.
She said Phillips was studying to be a nurse or paramedic at a Ballarat university and drove to her parent's home in Ferntree Gully once a week.
Magistrate Kay Robertson said driving 37kmh over the speed limit was dangerous for everyone.
"It is so easy to make a mess of your life or someone else's," Ms Robertson said.
Phillips pleaded guilty to speeding.
Her licence was suspended for six months and she was ordered to complete a road trauma awareness program.
