A BALLARAT women's electoral group has welcomed the news former mayor Judy Verlin will again run for Ballarat City Council.
There are now four female candidates in the running.
And Women Get Elected has also likened the recent antics of current councillors to kinder kids playing in a sandpit.
With three female candidates already putting their hands up for the November elections, WGE now hopes more will come forward.
Belinda Coates, Desley Beechey and Cheryl Bromfield have also announced they intend to stand for the council.
All four women said it was time for a change.
This week, WGE spokesperson Lynne McLennan said the women were strong candidates.
Ms McLennan said the group hosted a dinner last week, which allowed a large group of Ballarat women to hear first-hand about life as a councillor.
Guest speaker Moorabool Shire Council Mayor Di McAuliffe addressed the gathering.
Ms McLennan and her colleagues hope more women are eager to get involved.
"We are strongly encouraging other women who are interested in standing to get in touch," she said.
"The baseline requirements for a good local government councillor are personal integrity, commonsense, concern for the local community, preparedness to work hard and an ability to put the public interest above ego or personal gain."
Ms McLennan, who described the group as apolitical, said WGE was working to help women become successful candidates in November.
