PETA RYAN is about to embark on the most exciting adventure of her life.
The Ballarat beauty therapist is passionate about Vietnam and has been involved with the Lifestart Foundation for the past four years after a girlfriend suggested they sponsor a Vietnamese family together instead of exchanging
birthday gifts.
She now sponsors two families, whom she visits annually, and is determined to help provide the families with the basics that are often taken for granted.
"There's something special about the place," she said.
"I'm envious of their way of life."
This year, Ms Ryan will tackle her biggest challenge yet, joining a team of 10 cyclists who will ride 600km from the north of Vietnam down the coast to Saigon.
"It's a great way to see the country and to raise awareness," she said.
Before the cyclists can hit the pedals, they must each raise at least $5000, which will cover costs, leaving about $3000 from each rider to go towards the foundation. Ms Ryan is holding a trivia night in early July.
The trivia and auction night will be held Saturday, July 5, at the Wimbledon Room, Hollioake Park, Wendouree, and tickets cost $15 a head. If you are interested in supporting the fundraiser contact Ms Ryan on 0409 415 230.
