A SNAKE Valley man, who was three kilometres from his home, survived a horrific single-vehicle crash at Hillcrest on Saturday night.
The 25-year-old was airlifted to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne after he lost control of his Hyundai Excel on the Snake Valley-Smythesdale Rd at 7.20pm.
He was in a stable condition yesterday suffering from lower body injuries.
The man was trapped for 90 minutes while rescue crews cut the car's roof and doors to free him.
Linton Police Senior Constable Tony Walker said the man was almost home when he crashed.
He said the driver hit gravel on the side of the road while he was driving around a steep right bend.
"He lost control of his Hyundai Excel sedan and careered into a tree," Sen Const Walker said.
"He got out of it pretty well."
Sen Const Walker said the man was conscious and able to talk during the rescue.
"He was able to talk to everyone and tell us where his pain was," he said.
"He was very lucky."
The man was airlifted to Melbourne from the crash site, which was 400m west of Hopes Lane.
Police, fire crews and ambulance attended the crash.
