SWEET Decadence owner Melissa Staley was a little hesitant when the Prime Minister asked her to take a bite out of his head yesterday.
Ms Staley sunk her teeth into the cafe's trademark chocolate "pollie-pop" likeness of Kevin Rudd and, when asked by media, said he tasted sweet.
What had started as a quiet day for the Sturt St chocolatiers quickly became a flurry of excitement.
The cafe was given 10-minute's notice that Mr Rudd and his entourage were on the way for a lunch-time coffee with Ballarat MHR Catherine King and ifThe Couriernf editor Angela Carey.
After a brisk but thorough security inspection, Ms Staley booked her esteemed guest a couple of tables and staff were ready to go.
Mr Rudd had a brief chat with Sweet Decadence apprentice chef Emily Maruca, who had resigned from the army after breaking her arm in a training drill at Kapooka.
Ms Maruca said it was an exciting start for only her second day on the job.
"It was fine, he was nice," Ms Maruca said.
"He said he hopes I enjoy my apprenticeship."
Ms Maruca helped wait on Mr Rudd's table but it was Ms Staley who had the job of serving the Prime Minister.
She would not indulge what the nation's leader ordered but said he was a polite customer.
