Their first steps in a new life

Their first steps in a new life

7/09/2008 2:12:00 AM
"I NOW declare that you are husband and wife."

There was nothing unusual about the words, but the setting was a little different.

Ballarat's Julie Taylor and Melbourne's Gordon Hastings chose the unlikely venue of the Ballarat Law Courts' steps for their wedding.

The new Mrs Hastings said she chose the court steps "for something different".

The couple, who have both been married previously, met over the Internet a year ago.

Mrs Hastings said she had almost despaired of finding the right man online, before finally meeting Gordon last year.

"We were both ready to give it away. Then we got matched up with each other and that was it," Mrs Hastings said.

She said the day felt like "a new beginning".

About 30 friends and family attended the ceremony, which was led by celebrant Salina Wood.

The couple celebrated with friends at Ballarat's Atlantic Hotel.

They will live at Tarneit.
