Governor takes a break on shire rounds

10 Mar, 2010 12:29 AM
VICTORIAN Governor David de Kretser is on a mission to visit all the state's shires and yesterday stopped at Ballan's new GP super clinic during a tour of the Moorabool Shire.

At the clinic, which Federal Health Minister Nicola Roxon officially opened last year, Professor de Kretser unveiled its new donation board, listing the community contributions made to help open the clinic.

After a brief tour of the facility, which he described as a wonderful centre to integrate all services under one roof, he mingled with the clinic's staff and patrons.

Prof de Kretser said he was trying to get around all the Victorian shires during his five-year term to understand regional issues.

"I always enjoy coming to country areas, there are still a few shires left to visit but I will have visited them by the end of my term in March next year," he said.

Prof de Kretser later visited the Gordon Primary School, the Moorabool Arts Advisory Committee, Genetics Australia, Tripod Farmers and Ecolinc.

He then attended a civic reception for volunteers at Myrniong's St Anne's Winery.
