THIS week's home game is an introduction of Ballarat Pride to the region's netball ranks, says Pride championship captain Melissa Beaston.
All three UB Ballarat Pride teams joined forces for an intense training session last night to ensure they were ready to be on show in Victorian Netball League action this Saturday night.
There are a few new faces in the senior line-ups but for most home-grown 19-unders, this will be the first time in the spotlight.
The round two fixture is a rare treat for Pride supporters, who usually wait until mid-season to watch the teams in action - and this year Pride will also return to the Wendouree Sports and Events Centre in May.
"It is kind of like an introduction to the whole Ballarat Pride squad, for the three teams to get out there and show, not only who they are, but what state league netball is all about," Beaston said.
"Because people are not exposed to this level of netball much, the game offers a good understanding and appreciation of what's involved on and off the court to ensure everything runs smoothly."
Pride will host traditional club rival North East Blaze, which is expected to bus strong, vocal supporters to Ballarat in force.
Pride has already spent the past five weeks on the road, leading into and including the opening VNL round.
Ballarat posted one win, division one, in last week's round one matches and Beaston said all players were hungry to get back on the winners' list.
The first-year captain is looking forward to leading the charge, drawing on energy from the sidelines - especially young fans.
