SOUTH East Australian Basketball League reigning most valuable player Rachel Jarry is confident she will fully recover from a knee injury in time to start the new season with Ballarat Rush.Jarry believes with some rest before the opening game on Saturday, April 2, she will right to launch her second year in the SEABL in full flight. The 20-year-old forward, who was a revelation in her first season with Ballarat and will again be a linchpin in the team, has a floating bone at the back of a knee.Jarry said a later start to the SEABL season would allow her to have a short break before suiting up with the Auslec Rush.“I don’t want surgery to be an option,” Jarry told The Courier yesterday. She said the knee would only need to be cleaned up if it did not settle down.Jarry said medical advice was that it should come good with time. The signs are good. The injury threatened to derail her Women’s National Basketball League finals campaign with Bulleen Boomers. However, she returned to help Bulleen defeat Canberra in a major semi-final and will line up against the Capitals again in the grand final on Sunday.Jarry said she felt some soreness in the heavily strapped knee in the win over Canberra, but had trained strongly since and was all set to line up in the grand final.Bulleen is striving to avenge last year’s grand final loss to Canberra.Jarry said the memory of last season’s defeat was providing extra motivation. She said the Boomers did not want to go through that experience again.Jarry said it was important to make the most of the opportunity.Bulleen is coached by Tom Maher, who is a seven-times WNBL-title coach and former Australian Opals head coach.
