EMMA Reus is ending her South East Australian Basketball League playing career.
Reus is calling it quits after 155 games with Ballarat.
Her retirement means for the first time in almost a decade a member of the Reus family will not be on court for Auslec Ballarat Rush.
Her elder sister Karen Ashby rejoined the then Lady Miners in 2004, finally retiring at the end of the 2010 season.
Reus said it was time to do something different.
“It’s been an amazing experience.
“I’ve made some great friends and played for awesome coaches, and I’ll really miss the team,” she said.
Reus finishes on a high, with last season being a season best.
She averaged 5.5 rebounds and 5.1 points in games in which she played at least 20 minutes.
Rush assistant coach Sarah Monck said Reus would be a big loss.
“She played some very valuable minutes last season.
“Any time you lose a player of her height it’s going to be hard to cover.”
“Em’s commitment to the program was always exceptional and you never had any issues or anything with her, be it at practice, during games or away from the court,” Monck said.
Reus made her SEABL debut in 2004, playing two games.
She will continue to play in the Ballarat Basketball Association women’s A grade competition.
Ballarat Holden Miners and Auslec Ballarat Rush are yet to announced any imports for the upcoming SEABL season.
