Miners sign exciting US Import

BALLARAT Miners have signed American college high-flyer Gerard Anderson for the 2012 South East Australian Basketball League season.

The 198-centimetre forward joins the Miners out of the NBA D-League.

Anderson, 24, previously spent two seasons with Cal State Fullerton in California in the American National Collegiate Athletic Association.

He was named in the NCAA's All-Big West Conference first team in 2009-10.

From Los Angeles, he was the in the conference's top 10 in rebounding average, assists average and field goal percentage.

The previous year Anderson collected the conference's fourth-highest average in steals and eighth-highest average for blocks. In Anderson's final year for Cal State he averaged 12 points and six rebounds with an impressive shooting accuracy of 53 percent.

Anderson won the 2009-10 NCAA dunk of the year competition, with another of his dunks taking second place.

He joins Sydney Kings development player Kevin White as new signings.

I'm sorry......I don't mean to degrade the Victorian comp. But this guy is too good to be playing here.

I suggest anyone reading this youtube him and watch his highlight reel. Excitement machine, perfect drawcard to boost NBL numbers.

He has a nice slam-dunk but is he a terrier and the offensive and defensive boards?

At 6'6" he is really only a forward and not a dominating centre
