BALLARAT Miners began the weekend just as they wanted to in the South East Australian Basketball League east conference.
They upstaged a star-studded Knox at the Minerdome on Saturday night to give them three wins on end.
Unfortunately, the Wes Davidson Real Estate Miners could not keep it going yesterday as they came up short against Kilsyth by 13 points at Kilsyth.
It was their second loss to the Cobras this season.
Despite that disappointment, Ballarat had plenty of positives to take out of the 10-point win over Knox, which boasts SEABL great CJ Massingale and a wealth of NBL experience in Michael Hill and former Miner powerhouse Cameron Rigby.
Not even some heavy physical attention could take Ballarat's focus off the task at hand.
While Drake Reed, Tariq Naqqash, Jamal Brown and Dan Joyce led the way, it was again the input of the Miners' bench which was a major contributor.
Adam McSwain, Ryan Barnes and Nathan Cavanagh have grown in confidence over the past few weeks and newcomer Shaun Bruce has quickly settled in to the helter skelter of the SEABL.
Early in the season coach Guy Molloy was relying on his starting five to play the bulk of the minutes, with an apparent lack of depth holding back the Miners' progress.
This has changed as the roster has started to find the right chemistry and Molloy's bench is repaying the confidence he is showing in them by providing quality minutes.
McSwain and Barnes contributed 17 points, 14 more than the Knox bench - a pivotal statistic in the outcome.
Fresh from his SEABL player of the week award, a purposeful Reed was again as a solid as a rock with 26 points, while the pink-haired Naqqash was an excitement machine with six triples in 24 points.
Brown was an inside strength with 14 rebounds to complement his 14 points as the Miners held it together in the face of several challenges by Knox.
The biggest of the Raiders' charges came in the last five minutes with a 10-0 run, but seven points was as close as Knox got.
While Ballarat was able to keep Massingale to a manageable 19 points for Knox, the Miners were unable to stop Kilsyth's Ryan Bathie yesterday.
He scored 36 points at 75 per cent to be the big difference.
Kilsyth took a page out of the Miners' book by jumping away in the first quarter and controlled the game from there.
Reed finished with 23 points and 14 boards to confirm his arrival as a big name in the SEABL.
