THE Central Highlands boys backed up their round one win with a massive 122-run victory over Northern Rivers in the Cricket Victoria under- 16 male Dowling Shield at University Ground yesterday.
A 148-run partnership between Jack Baker and Patrick O’Malley was the catalyst for the win, as the duo got the Highlanders off to a good start with 100 and 56 runs respectively.
While the batting order crumbled after the pair got out to end their innings on 9-218, they were able to easily get their opponents out thanks to some brilliant bowling, namely from Matthew Short.
Short took 3-13 in 10 overs to ensure victory as the Northern Rivers boys ended their innings on 96 runs.
The Highlanders take on Inner East Emus at Schramms Reserve today.
Meanwhile, Central Highlands bounced back from its round one loss with a 58-run win against Northern Rivers in the Cricket Victoria Pathway under-14 male state championships at Crawford Oval yesterday.
It was a true team victory with no player dominating the match, although Harli Givvens made 44 not out.
Givvens’ efforts came during the first innings in which the Highlands boys made 143 runs after being sent into bat.
The Northern Rivers boys may have regretted that decision, as they were unable to catch the Highlanders, ending their innings on 85.
The Highlanders face off with Inner East Emus at Donvale Reserve today.
