BALLARAT’S Sarah Tatchell ripped through ACT’s batting order on the first day of the Cricket Australia Under-18 Female National Championships in Ballarat yesterday.
In a dominant performance with the ball, Tatchell (Ballarat’s only representative in the Victorian side) claimed five wickets to steer Victoria to a crucial first-up victory in the championships.
She finished with impressive figures of 5-14 off her nine overs.
It was a brilliant start to the campaign for the Napoleons-Sebastopol cricketer, who is competing in her first under-18 national championship.
Her performance with the ball helped restrict ACT to a conservative total of 169.
Victoria then cruised past their opponents with the bat, to claim a resounding win on the first day of the week-long championships.
Although Tatchell, 16, missed out with the bat, her effort with the ball proved decisive in the win.
Victoria went on to defeat ACT with six wickets in hand and more than 15 overs to spare.
The Vics will face New South Wales at Wendouree today, in what will prove a crucial match as New South Wales looks to take out its eighth straight championship.
