CRICKET: Brown Hill girls turn tables in top-of-ladder clash

03 Feb, 2010 12:34 AM
BROWN Hill has claimed an eight-wicket win against EMP in a top-of-the-table Victorian Women's Cricket Association premier seconds clash.

After losing to EMP in their past two meetings this season, Brown Hill was keen to turn the tables.

Briony Polkinghorne's unbeaten 73 runs steered Brown Hill past its target with 15 overs to spare.

Brown Hill was sent in to field in windy conditions first.

Opening batters Emma Scilini and Dot Brasher kept the Brown Hill bowlers at bay and constructed a well-made 87-run opening partnership. Then Brown Hill co-captain Sara Cavanagh had Scilini trapped in front for 35.

Tight bowling from Sarah Allan and Sasha Peers sparked the fall of the next four EMP wickets.

Allan and Peers claimed two wickets apiece before Cavanagh picked up her second wicket.

Extras was the top score for EMP with Brown Hill contributing 47 sundries to EMP's 6-177.

Brown Hill opened its innings with Ella Austin and Bethany Taylor crafting a solid 73 runs before falling in quick succession to leave Brown Hill at 2-74.

This brought Peers and Briony Polkinghorne together.

Polkinghorne blasted her way to an unbeaten 73 with Peers providing a steady 19, not out.

The win puts Brown Hill four points clear of EMP and Brunswick Park atop the ladder.

Brown Hill next faces Dandenong Lions at St Patrick's College on Sunday.
