Australian Open Road Cycling Championships: McEwen will ride

THE LEGENDARY Robbie McEwen will ride in the Scody Australian Open Road Cycling Championships in Ballarat next week.

Event director John Craven confirmed today McEwen would be returning to Ballarat for the championships for the first time since 2004.

McEwen won the road race title at Buninyong in 2002 and in Adelaide in 2005.

He will ride in the criterium in Sturt Street on Thursday, January 7, and the road race at Buninyong on Sunday, January 10.

The 37-year-old is a three-time Australian Road Cyclist of the Year - 1999, 2002 and 2005 - and as one of the fastest sprinters in the world has won the prestigious green jersey in the Tour de France three times - 2002, 2004 and 2006.
