BALLARAT’S Patrick Shaw is one stage away from taking out his second consecutive event in National Road Cycling Series.
Already a winner of this year’s Tour of Toowoomba, Shaw leads the Tour of Gippsland with one day to go.
He extended his hold on the yellow jersey to 14 seconds with two solid efforts on Saturday.
The 24-year-old finished fifth in a 33km criterium in Bairnsdale in the morning stage and then backed up with a second in a 79km stage from Bairnsdale to Lakes Entrance.
Although Shaw is yet to win a stage, he has had sixth top-six finishes in seven stages.
The tour finishes with a 44-kilometre criterium in Paynesville on Sunday.
It appears only bad luck will deny him finishing on top of the podium.
Shaw (Virgin Blue-RBS Morgans) took the lead in the tour on the second day on Friday.
