National cycling: Meyer's time trial breakthrough

Rising Australian star Cameron Meyer won the men's elite time trial on day one of the Australian Open Road Cycling Championships at Buninyong today.

Meyer finished the 39km course 50 minutes, 52 seconds.

Queenslander John Anderson was second, with Olympic gold medallist Luke Roberts third as he continues a comeback in the sport.

Meyer finished second to Michael Rogers in the same event last year.

Ballarat's Damien Turner finished 10th.
