30 Dec, 2009 11:54 AM
TOUR de France stars Michael Rogers, Allan Davis, Matt Lloyd, Baden Cooke, Matt Wilson and Luke Roberts will join two-time national champion Robbie McEwen in the Scody Australian Open Road Cycling Championships in Ballarat next week.

Their appearance in the world class event was confirmed this morning.

Lloyd (2008) and Wilson (2004) are past national open road race champions.

The women's championships will feature Bridie O'Donnell and Kirsty Broun, along with veteran and O)lympic gold medallist Kathy Watt.

Almost 600 entries have been received for the nine events, which will offer 12 titles.

City of Ballarat destination and connections portfolio councillor Samantha McIntosh said residents and visitors should take this opportunity to experience world class cycling in Ballarat and Buninyong.

''Some of Australias best cyclists will be right here on our doorstep competing to be crowned Australian champion.

''The opportunity to witness such an elite level sporting event is fantastic,'' she said.

The championships begin next Wednesday and continue until Sunday, January 10.
