Piccoli sprints home in first junior criterium

10 Nov, 2009 10:55 PM
A ROLL call of almost 30 riders opened the Ballarat Sebastopol Cycling Club's new Victoria Park junior criterium series.

Lewis Piccoli clawed his way to the front to out-sprint Hugo Tolliday and Jasper Foley in the A grade event.

Madeleine Plastow and Meg O'Doherty led out for six laps before being reeled in by the mid-group of Angus Lyons, Emma Bilston, Conor Dickson, Victoria Snibson and Joshua Liston.

This group had 40 seconds over the under-17 mix of Emily Wordie Thompson, Foley, Piccoli, Tolliday and Molly Hegert (under-19). The mid-group worked well and as the laps ticked off the gap was trimmed down, with the under-

15s caught by the under-17s with just 200m to go.

Results:

A grade, bunched handicap, 7.8km, 6 laps: Lewis Piccoli 12:14, Hugo Tolliday 2, Jasper Foley 3.

B grade, bunched handicap 5.2km, 4 laps: Nicholas White 9:31, Patrick Cosgrave, Dylan Bilston.

C-D grade, 3.9km (3 laps) scratch: Tyson Cody 9:54, Rochelle Liston, Beatrice Pickersgill.
