BALLARAT Football League’s youth girls’ football competition is expanding.
Five teams are confirmed – one more than last year.
The Red Onion BFL is hopeful a sixth club will enter a team before the season starts on June 24.
Lake Wendouree joins foundation sides Golden Point, Redan, Sebastopol and Ballarat.
BFL operations manager Aaron Nunn said last year’s inaugural season was a huge success with more than 80 girls ranging in age from 13 to 18 registering.
Nunn is hopeful that, with the addition of Lake Wendouree and possibly another team, registrations will exceed 120 this year.
“If we can secure further growth in female football numbers, we are moving a long way to help grow the game and our clubs,” he said.
Each club will play each other twice and the season will end with a day of finals coinciding with BFL junior preliminary final day at Marty Busch Reserve.
Nunn said clubs would shortly be releasing information on how players could get involved in youth girls’ football.
