GISBORNE Football Club members will determine tonight whether the Bulldogs' playing future is in Ballarat or Bendigo.
Members will vote on a proposal to seek a transfer from the Bendigo competition to become the Ballarat Football League's 12th team.
Gisborne's committee has already voted in favour of the move.
If the club's membership supports the proposal, Gisborne will then apply to the Bendigo league for a transfer.
RegionalOne Ballarat league chief executive officer Rod Ward has led two information sessions in the lead-up to the vote _ one with the committee and another with about 100 members.
A sizeable proportion of members are players and Mr Ward said a group of senior players _ including senior coach Ty Elliott _ had voiced their opposition to a relocation.
If Gisborne made the switch, it would renew rivalries with the neighbouring Sunbury, Melton, Melton South and Darley.
All were previously part of the Riddell league.
Gisborne has been in the Bendigo league since 2000 and won four premierships in six grand final appearances.
Mr Ward initiated a formal approach to Gisborne in May.
He sees Gisborne as a perfect fit _ removing the bye and giving the competition six teams in the western sector and six in the east.
