Stephenson out injured, Hale in

NORTH Melbourne ruckman/forward David Hale makes his first appearance for North Ballarat in a massive clash with top team Williamstown in the Victorian Football League at Eureka Stadium Ballarat tomorrow.

The Selkirk Roosters yesterday locked in five changes to the team which lost to Werribee Tigers to extend their losing run to three.

Injured number one ruckman Orren Stephenson (ankle) and suspended midfielder Brett Goodes are the biggest losses.

They are out with Daniel Pratt, who returns to North Melbourne; Warren Benjamin, who has been left out after just one week back in the seniors; and Dylan Parish, who has gone back to the North Ballarat Rebels.

Stephenson rolled an ankle at training on Monday night and has failed to recover in time.

The Roosters are hopeful he will miss just the one match.

As well as Hale's inclusion, Rohan McHugh has been recalled, Marcus White has recovered from a strained hamstring and Tyler George will make his VFL senior debut.

This leaves one spot up for grabs, with Tristan Cartledge, Nick Peters, Ryan McKenzie, Clinton Benjamin and Nik Orvis vying for the position.

George has been selected under the 23rd player rule.

It allows VFL teams to either use TAC Cup under-18 top age players and first-year TAC Cup graduates as what is effectively a fifth man on interchange.

George is in his first season on the Roosters' senior list and is the second Rebels graduate to debut under this rule.

Ryan McKenzie did the same against Sandringham in round three.

Cartledge is hoping to earn a recall after one week in the reserves, but still has to prove his fitness after suffering a whiplash-type injury on Saturday.

Cartledge is one of three options FitzGerald has to replace Stephenson in the ruck, with Hale and Josh Smith also candidates.

The Western Bulldogs-aligned Williamstown, which is coming off a defeat at the hands of Sandringham, has lost Andrejs Everitt and Brennan Stack to the Bulldogs, but still boasts Tim Callan, Wayde Skipper, Jason Cloke, Brett Johnson and Guy O'Keefe in a powerful line-up.

The match will also be a homecoming for Jordan Roughead, who was drafted by the Bulldogs from the North Ballarat Rebels last year.

North Ballarat defeated Williamstown by two points when they met early in the year.
