North Ballarat Rebels’ draftees Lucas Cook and Tom McDonald could be starved of opportunity in front of goals with the arrival of sacked Brisbane Lions’ forward Brendan Fevola to Casey Scorpions.The AFL development of the Melbourne duo, and fellow recruit Jeremy Howe, has been put in the spotlight after the dual Coleman medallist signalled last night he would join the Demons’ Victorian Football League partner.Cook yesterday told The Courier he was unsure how Fevola might fit into the Scorpions’ forward structure.“No, I’ve heard nothing but I’m sure I’ll find out something in the next few days,” Cook said.Fevola made his first training session with the Scorpions last night after agreeing to join the club on Tuesday evening. He is expected to train with Casey for a fortnight before an overseas holiday. Cook said his focus would be on training with Melbourne until both league seasons started.Melbourne chief executive Cameron Schwab made clear on metropolitan radio the Demons were concerned about the on-field impact Fevola might have on development plans for its young forwards in the VFL.The Demons used their first three selections in last year’s AFL national draft to claim tall, young forwards. Cook was their number one pick.“We felt both clubs were about the development of young players,” Schwab said on air.“We’ve got a young list. We’ve got a number of tall players coming through that area of the ground.“We made our position clear.“The fact they’ve made their own call is a position that they can take but we’ve made it known it is something we didn’t support.’’- With AAP
