BALLARAT'S roller derby interleague squad will venture to Tasmania for the first time this month for a clash against a team from the Apple Isle's capital.Hobart's Convict City Rollers will host The Rat Pack for a bout on November 27th, in what the Ballarat Roller Derby League is describing as a landmark event for the sport's Ballarat base."We were offered the opportunity earlier in the year, and the girls are really looking forward to it and training hard," league secretary Patricia Kekewick said. "It gives the girls a chance to play against another professional team. We are hoping this kind of opportunity encourages more girls to get involved in the league in Ballarat."The Rat Pack took on the South Sea Sirens in Keysborough in the South East Side Story on Saturday night, the squad made up entirely of Ballarat players for the first time since Ballarat Roller Derby began almost two years ago. Despite the team's best efforts, Ballarat was defeated 114-96 by the Sirens. Though the Sirens got to an early lead, the Rat Pack ensured that the Sirens were forced to earn their points. Ballarat's key scorers were Michelle Murrell (Miss Hellfire), Eloise Gooding (El Gore), Patsy-Anne Vendy (Mean Piece) and Rebekah Bailey (Apocalypse Nerd).Roller Derby players are referred to by their nicknames during play.
