BROWN Hill has shot to outright first place on the Ballarat Cricket Association firsts ladder after a stunning outright victory over Coronet City on Saturday.
After posting 305 on day one, the Bulls claimed the rare feat of 20 wickets in a day, skittling City for 73 in the first innings and 121 in the second.
The innings and 111-run demolition takes Brown Hill four points ahead of Mt Clear and Wendouree, which are undefeated after round three.
Just three bowlers were used to run through City the first time, with the returning Simon Lockyer (4-33) and Luke Nunn (4-20) helping rout their rivals in 25 overs, just after 2.30pm.
City was a little more resolute in the second innings, but was still no match for the Bulls bowlers, who claimed maximum points just before 5.30pm.
Peter Kane (3-12) and Tim Smyth (2-23) both bowled well, while Lockyer capped off a big day with 2-8, giving him 6-41 for the afternoon.
Paul Gannon (22 and 27) and P Handley (13 and 24) were two batsmen who could hold their heads a little higher than the rest of their City teammates, trying hard through the middle order.
City joins Darley at the bottom of the ladder, winless after three rounds of competition.
GOLDEN POINT has registered its first points of the season thanks to a gutsy display by its middle order.
Resuming at 2-12 in pursuit of Napoleons-Sebastopol's 143, the Pointies lost captain Josh White and Stephen O'Loughlin early, but a fighting 206-ball 81 from Andrew Falkner helped his team pass the total with the loss of just five wickets.
Falkner helped cap an important victory for the Pointies, which suffered batting collapses from winnable positions in the opening two rounds.
Dwayne Hiscock (29) and Lachlan Anderson (42 not out) were also important for the winners, while Brendan Thomson was the best of the home side's bowlers with 4-35 from 18 overs.
EAST BALLARAT had little trouble reaching North Ballarat's first innings total of 162 on Saturday.
East started the day at 0-33, but lost Mark Shaw through a direct hit when the score was 50.
The Roosters then continued to claim regular wickets, but despite their best efforts, simply ran out of runs to defend as East passed the target with the loss of five wickets.
East then dropped its final five wickets for just 24 runs, but the result was already in the bag.
Brad Whittaker was the linchpin East needed at the top of the order, batting through a vital period of the run chase, finishing with 44, which included two sixes.
Anthony Draffin picked up 3-28 in a tidy spell of bowling for the Roosters, while spinner James Winnard claimed 3-43.
DARLEY batted itself out of winning contention in the clash against Wendouree.
In a slow day of cricket, Darley lasted the entire afternoon before stumps were pulled with the home side 9-136 in pursuit of the Red Caps' 195.
Darley resumed at 1-2, but was caught in early trouble when Eamon Johnson struck in the first over of the day.
Things never improved for Darley, which battled through the 78 overs at a scoring rate of less than two per over, finishing 60 runs short of victory.
Johnson continued his outstanding start to the season with 4-40 from his 21 overs, while Wendouree's watertight economy was exemplified by Nicholas O'Brien, who finished with 1-15 from 17 overs.
Daniel Popov top-scored for Darley with 25.
A QUALITY top-order display has helped Mt Clear chase down Ballarat-Redan's 9-225.
Sam McVitty (60) and Matt Goonan (47) combined for an opening stand of 88, before an important 41 from Darren Fletcher and an unbeaten 30 from M Clark carried the Mounties to the target with the loss of seven wickets, with a handful of overs remaining.
Luke Whinney was the only Combine bowler to dominate, with 3-19 from nine overs.
