THEY have joined the most experienced premiership combinations in the Ballarat Football League.
First year Lions Tom Gleeson and Dean Chester are keen to see what Redan finals football is all about when the Linlec Electrical Lions launch their 2010 bid tomorrow.
Chester is a North Ballarat Roosters' premiership player and has added plenty of spark on the Lions' wing.
He arrived at Mars City Oval after an injury-riddled season in the Victorian Football League and is excited to be back in finals action.
''I like to take it all in and hopefully to have success,'' Chester said.
''I think we're a massive chance this season.
''We found a bit of good form last week, which is good to carry into finals.''
Chester said a major reason for joining the Lions this season was because he knew it was a successful, professional club.
Redan has netted five senior premierships in the past eight seasons.
The reigning premier finished fourth, sending them into an elimination final against Darley tomorrow.
Chester said the Lions seemed to have slipped under the BFL radar a little with all the focus at the top of the ladder on Sunbury, Lake Wendouree and Ballarat.
Gleeson said a little less attention should be a good thing for the Lions.
''From what I've heard, in the past Redan has played better when under the radar,'' Gleeson said.
The classic utility joined the Lions from Albury in his third year of physical education studies at the University of Ballarat.
Gleeson has not played a lot of finals football.
He looked forward to tasting play-off action with the Lions.
Gleeson says his role in the team has been to fill whichever hole was needed on match-day.
He was sent up forward last round on short notice and said he would not mind a spell there again under finals pressure.
''I'm hoping to go back there and provide some goals,'' Gleeson said.
''It's not necessarily my role to kick goals, but I'm an opportunist _ I'll take my chances when I get them.''
Gleeson and Chester said it had been a good season with Redan so far.
There was still a lot of tough work ahead, starting with Darley at High Mountain Eastern Oval.
''Darley is travelling well,'' Chester said.
''They're a young team so if we get on top of them early in the first 10 minutes, we can really stamp our authority.''
