Bowls: Gold Diggers qualify for junior squad championships

BALLARAT Gold Diggers have qualified for a junior squad championship in Bendigo by comfortably beating Geelong Giants with all three teams up.Ryan Bedggood, Matthew Blackburn, and Jacob Croft won 21-11.Todd Blackburn, Brad Sargent and Tanner Dickson Arthur won 19-8, and Jayke Clarke, Dominic Boratto and Lachlan Wood won 17-15.It was the final Gold Diggers appearance for Sargeant and Wood, who soon turn 18.All juniors bowlers are urged to attend coaching and practice at Webbcona on Sunday, 10am. MORE promising teenage bowlers are on the greens in the second school pennant in Ballarat. Students from Ballarat Grammar, High School, Loreto, St Patrick’s College and Damascus will compete at Webbcona on February 20, Central Wendouree on February 27, BMS on March 5th, and a grand final at Sebastopol on March 19.Keep an eye out for them in action. Starting time is 4pm each Monday. BOWLERS selected as emergencies are reminded to be in uniform in case they have to play. The Ballarat District Bowls Division board is seeking suggestions from bowlers and clubs who have ideas for changes to the rules of competition. Suggestions should be forwarded in writing to the secretary no later than February 29 for collation for further discussion. The draw for the BDBD three-bowl mixed pairs has one vacancy.
