Burrumbeet Cup: heavy load for Weir's Inglewood Doc

29 Dec, 2009 10:35 PM
LAST-START Nhill Cup winner Inglewood Doc is top weight for the $18,000 Burrumbeet Cup, 1800 metres, on Friday.

Inglewood Doc yesterday received 59 kilograms - 3kg more than he carried to third place behind Silk Wind in the Cup this year.

The seven-year-old is one of two nominations from the Ballarat stable of Darren Weir, who also has Gunbei among 18 entries.

Gunbei's latest effort was a third to Heritage Port in Saturday's Penshurst Cup.

Last-start Horsham winner Sylvan Lodge (Barry James), Request La Fame (Robert Smerdon), Perisher Blue (Nicolas Bompas) and Onajet (Anthony Cosgriff) are other Ballarat-trained gallopers among the nominations.

Whiskey Cruyff and Blue Collar Jack are others up in the weights with 58kg.

Burrumbeet Park and Windermere Racing Club has 159 nominations for the seven races programmed, with acceptors being taken today.

* NEW club secretary Genevieve Browne is set for a hectic day.

As well as having her administrative duties, she might be saddling up to three horses as a trainer.

Twelve months ago Browne was cutting her teeth as a trainer and took her first horse, Lord of Mayfair, to Burrumbeet.

This time she has Coral Cat nominated for two maidens, Al Mateena entered for 0-58 and 0-62 handicaps, and Speed From Duneed nominated for a maiden.

Browne's perfect day would be a bumper crowd and her first win as a trainer.

Formerly from New South Wales, Al Mateena has had three starts for her, including a last-start second in a 0-62 handicap for fillies and mares in Ballarat on December 13.

Speed From Duneed is also coming off a minor placing - a third in a Horsham maiden on December 20.
