Cahir just sneaks in for top cricket honour

17 Mar, 2010 12:54 AM
DUNNSTOWN paceman Jaye Cahir has completed a rare sporting double in winning the Bernie Davey Medal last night.

The Ballarat Cricket Association district division one top individual honour follows Cahir's Central Highlands Football League senior best and fairest, also representing Dunnstown, last winter.

Cahir's latest medal has also added to a fairytale-like cricket season for the Towners, who reached the finals with two outright wins.

This week they hunt premiership glory.

Cahir has been consistent all season, polling 13 votes in the division's best and fairest count at Bray Raceway last night.

This is the second time Cahir has won district cricket's top award, last claiming the honour in the 1999-2000 season.

Only this time, Cahir has a prize to show for it.

"We never had an actual medal back then it was just the title of best in the league," Cahir said.

"Hopefully the form will continue into next week."
