Central go in super favourites in sixes

27 Jan, 2009 11:41 PM
WEBBCONA and Central Wendouree get the bowl rolling in the Super 6s at Webbcona Bowling Club tonight at 6pm.

Jarrod Burt - fresh from a big win in the BRBA singles and in the championship fours team - and his Central team-mates will be a tough side to beat in the six-a-side event.

Tommy Clarke and his team from Webbcona will push the visitors with a young team who will be competitive and should not to be taken lightly.

This will be a game worth seeing, as this will give us a taste of what is to come the next evening with three more games to be played.

Webbcona's Nathan Mahoney faces Greg Brown in the singles; Ash McArthur and Tony Wood take on Central's Burt and Col Johnson in the pairs; while Mick Sloper, Clarke and Adam Kinniburgh go head-to-head with John Nunn,

David Denham and Eric Kosloff.

City Oval hosts Victoria on its Sturt St greens at 6pm.

Victoria is the top side in premier league but City Oval may surprise the visitors with their line-up.

Victoria will go into the game with a strong side for their opening round and should take the points.

Sebastopol and Ballarat Memorial Sports play their first game at Sebastopol beginning at 6pm.

This will be a big first game for BMS, its opposition will have all players available including Jeremy Henry, its new player from Northern Ireland who will be out to impress his new club.

BMS will be out to put in a good performance and show the premier players that ladder position mean nothing in this type of game.

Sebastopol will gain some of the points but not all.

Ballarat and Ballarat East begin at 6pm on the Havelock St greens in what will be the closest game of the first round as both teams are very evenly matched.

Ian Hedger's team from Easts are keen to do well in this competition, while John Crawford, Rob Densley and their side will give a good showing at home and the points will be shared.

Four top games will be played over the two nights with singles, pairs and triples being played in the sets-play format.

Most games will take about two hours to complete.

All are welcome to come and see the top players of the competition in action.

Remaining teams in spotlight.

WITH the mercury sky rocketing this week, the BRBA's hot weather rules may come into play.

The match committee can call the game off up to two hours (three for premier league) prior to the start of play, after that it is up to the green director, managers or umpire to decide.

All games must be completed by 7pm (6.30pm for premier league), or at the completion of any ends started before 7pm (6.30pm).

At any time during the day the temperature can be checked on the club's thermometer, and if it reaches 38C all play at the club shall be abandoned.

If the temperature forecast in The Courier is more than 35C then the highest reading taken during the day must be recorded on the scoresheet.

The match will be a draw if less than 60 ends are played, except for teams of three rinks where 45 ends constitutes a match.
