BROWN HILL sits atop the Victorian Women's Cricket Association premier seconds victory in the first Twenty20 match of the season on Sunday.
Brown Hill won by eight runs after holding last season's premier Brunswick Park to 9-106 in response to its total of 5-114.
After losing the toss and being sent in to bat, Brown Hill had a dream start with Bethany Taylor and Sasha Peers combining with an opening partnership of 53, at around five runs per over.
Number-three Briony Polkinghorne formed important partnerships with Taylor and Ella Austin, which put Brown Hill in a strong position, finishing with 114.
With just a 10-minute changeover time, Brown Hill opened the bowling with Polkinghorne and Taylor, who had Brunswick Park 2-20 after the opening six overs.
Veteran bowlers Debbie Jones and Sara Cavanagh combined to contain the run rate along with some sensational fielding and pressure, which saw two great catches and a direct hit run out from Nicole McKay.
A middle order surge by Brunswick put some pressure on Brown Hill, but the tight bowling and constant field changes saw the Ballarat team contain its rivals to run out narrow winners.
Brown Hill will play its first home game of the season on Sunday, taking on Coburg at St Patrick's College.
