HUSBAND and wife Rob and Narelle Lehmann have blitzed their maiden masters athletics meet and have high hopes heading into next month’s Australian masters championships.

The Wendouree Athletics Club athletes dominated all events they entered at the Victorian Masters Track and Field Championships, winning nine gold medals between them.
It was the first masters event either had raced in, having previously competed on the professional circuit.
Narelle, who won four gold medals and broke three existing records, said it was a great day out for the pair, a day that produced unexpected results.
“We thought we would be pretty competitive but beyond that, we really didn’t know what to expect,” she said.
“It has given us some sort of idea as to what we can expect at the nationals, but again we really don’t know who we will be racing against.”
At the Melbourne meet on the weekend, Narelle won the 60m, 100m and 200m sprints, while also claiming the long jump title.
She jumped 4.78 metres to break the long jump record, while also setting the fastest times in the 60m and 100m events.
Rob won the 60m, 100m and 200m sprints, in addition to his gold medals in the long jump and triple jump. Both were competing in the age 40-44 category.
Heading into their first national masters event on April 6, which will be just their second masters event ever, they are hopeful of a repeat performance.
“Realistically we’re expecting we should be relatively competitive but I don’t really know, we haven’t raced in them before,” said Narelle.
Rob has entered the sprints and the jumps events, while Narelle will just race in the sprints.
