Indigenous Games come to Ballarat

31 Aug, 2010 12:54 AM
BALLARAT Netball Association is hosting the Indigenous Games for netball over the first weekend of October.

Hundreds of keen netballers will travel to Ballarat and play some top netball.

BNA is seeking the services of umpires for matches during this carnival weekend.

Contact bnapride@optusnet.com.au for details of draws, remuneration and requirements.

FINALS fever has hit the Ballarat Netball Association with 12 junior grand finals to be played on Saturday.

The A-grade deciders promise to produce some top level junior netball.

The 19-under open final between Dela Delaney and Brown Hill Bounders will be closely contested after Dela snuck home by three goals in the semi-final.

Coaches Rachael Hardy and Kerry Lightfoot expect their teams to continue the close rivalry.

Eureka Kings and Dela Kestrels meet once again in the A-grade play-off.

The match will place many of the 15-under Ballarat talent squad members on court but this time playing against each other.

These girls have spent many hours together, training, playing and travelling to represent Ballarat at Victorian events, but once on court for their clubs, the rivalry will be on.

The 13-under A-grade final also features Dela and Eureka.

As with the 15-unders, the majority of players are Ballarat talent squad members.

Eureka went straight into the grand finals in both A-grade divisions, with Dela having to produce its best to defeat Brown Hill along the way.

Presentations of premiership teams, representative players, club people of the year, acknowledgement of volunteer support and most valuable players in the grand finals will all take place at the conclusion of the final match.

THE need for umpire development is evident.

While the Ballarat Netball Association takes the lead in development by offering training, courses and education to the wider netball community, congratulations must also go to Central Highlands and Lexton Plains who have been active in this endeavour.

Umpires from country football/netball leagues should contact BNA to seek guidance.

The BNA will provide practical help to individuals and/or clubs.

Ballarat has organised a Level One Umpires Course for beginner umpires on Sunday, September 12 between 10am and 2pm.

Register by downloading an application form from the Netball Victoria website.

CENTRAL Highlands Regional selections for the V-Line state titles will be held from 6pm on September 10.

The trials are for 15-under and 17-under players.

Coaching staff, umpires and managers are being sought.

ENTRIES are open for Junior summer competition, which commences on October 18.

Teams for 11, 13, 15, 17-under play on Monday nights from 4pm.

19-under and 21-under play on Tuesday nights.

Teams must name an umpire and enter before October 13 to be accepted.
