LEADING jockey Glen Boss continues his comeback from a shoulder injury at today’s Ballarat twilight meeting.
Boss did not race ride for almost four months after surgery, missing the Melbourne Spring Carnival.
He had his first race ride at Sandown Hillside on January 18 and has been selective in easing his way back.
Not everything has gone smoothly either – he was tipped out of the saddle at Sandown Lakeside on Saturday.
He bounced back quickly though, getting his first win in a deadheat at Werribee on Sunday.
In his business week so far, Boss rode at Sandown Hillside yesterday and has five mounts today ahead of big books at Moonee Valley tomorrow night and Caulfield on Saturday.
Vinegar Hill is possibly his best mount this afternoon in the Ballarat Bakery 0-62 Handicap, 1200m.
The seven-year-old is a newcomer to the Clinton McDonald stable.
Vinegar Hill started his career in Victoria, but has done the bulk of his racing in South Australia.
He has not been to the races since mid-September, but has won and been placed twice in five first-up runs.
A dream day at the home track
KYNETON trainer Michael Sell had a dream day at his home track on Australia Day.
Sell produced five winners from five starters.
The feat doubled his winning tally for the season.
Sell is hoping to stretch the sequence in Ballarat today.
His stable has its first starter since his big day out at Kyneton with veteran Stately Dash in the Ryan and McDonald Homes 0-72 Handicap, 1000m.
Despite being 11 years old, Stately Dash’s form is probably as good as anything in Sell’s team.
He did race on Australia Day, but his latest six starts have produced a Wangaratta victory and five minor placings – all over 1000m or 1100m.
Stately Dash goes to Dowling Forest off a close second to Jeteven at Sandown Hillside.
Apprentice jockey Jacob Londregan also provides important weight relief, claiming 3kg to drop his weight to 56.6kg.
Robertson riding
for the big 50
CRAIG Robertson is chasing his 50th Victorian win of the season.
With two mounts, Robertson sits on 49.
He rides Delightful Isabel in the Tracy The Placement People Maiden, 1000m, and Printed in the Transport Tyres 0-62 Handicap, 1400m.
Robertson sits eighth in the Victorian jockeys’ title.
Still looking for that elusive win
THERE’S nothing like having a win on your home track.
Ballarat trainer Dan O’Sullivan is searching for that elusive win at Dowling Forest this season.
It has not been for want of trying.
He has had three seconds and a third, a record which reflects his statewide season record of eight wins, 24 seconds and 14 thirds.
Annie’s A Gem ($3.80 favourite) added to his winning tally by two lengths in a 0-68 handicap, 1400m, at Warrnambool on Tuesday.
She was given the run of the race by apprentice Damien Thornton and quickly outran her rivals in the last 200m.
He has Sunday Psalm in the Ryan and McDonald Homes 0-72 Handicap today and Belle Of Storms in the Sportsbet.com.au 0-62 for fillies and mares, 1600m.
