LEXTON Plains Football Netball League will move this year's grand final away from AUSTAR Arena if the upgrade of a netball court at the venue is not completed.
LPFNL general manager Rod Ward said the league required a grand final venue where football and netball could be catered for.
He said although Ballarat's AUSTAR Arena was the preferred location, under no circumstances would football and netball split.
"Playing separately is not an option.
"It's not negotiable," Mr Ward said.
"We are an all-inclusive league and that means netball and football go together," he said.
The netball court at AUSTAR Arena is in an unplayable condition and a planned upgrade is yet to begin.
A LPFNL board meeting on Monday night will discuss options for a possible move.
Mr Ward said the league could not wait until August to see what happened, with the grand final to played on Saturday, September 6.
North Ballarat Football Club chief executive officer Mark Patterson was confident that the $40,000 upgrade would be completed in time.
The club has received a grant from Sport and Recreation Victoria which Mr Patterson said should cover about a third of the cost.
"We're well down the track in planning but it's no good doing something and finding out it's just a short-term fix," Mr Patterson said.
"We're making sure we do it right the first time."
Planning for a new court began last September with the return of North City Football Netball Club to its home-based when it rejoined the Ballarat Football League.
A replacement court became unavoidable when Ballarat City Council water trucks drove over the existing court and put its surface beyond repair.
Mr Ward said the prolonged wait for a new court was frustrating for both the LPFNL's "showpiece" event and the BFL's ongoing netball commitments at the precinct.
"It's ridiculous. We were privy to meeting with North Ballarat (Football Netball Club) where we looked at several options and it's a month down the track and nothing much has happened," Ward said.
Central Highlands Netball League is schedule to play its grand finals at AUSTAR Arena on Saturday, September 13.
The Central Highlands Football League has no plans to move football from the venue.
A CHNL spokesperson said there was no contingency plan for netball grand finals yet, as the project is expected to be completed on time.
