BALLARAT Miners dried up offensively to lose in overtime to Albury-Wodonga by five points in the South East Australian Basketball League at Albury last night.
The Miners had control of the game at three quarter time, but could manage only 10 points in the last period.
It took a steal and three-pointer by Tariq Naqqash with three seconds to go to send the game into extra time.
However, with import Drake Reed fouled out and Naqqash unable to buy another basket, the Bandits took the honours.
Coach Guy Molloy described it as a lost opportunity.
He said poor execution offensively had hurt the Miners, which face North West Tasmania in Ballarat tonight.
Ballarat played most of the game without Jared Scoines, who was taken to hospital after suffering concussion in the first quarter.
Scoines went to the floor after taking a knock to the head and was taken from the court on a stretcher.
Molloy said the Miners were already thin and losing Scoines, who was coming off an impressive opening to the season, had thrown them off balance.
He said it was to the players' credit that they worked through this setback to get into a winning position.
Tariq Naqqash led the scoring with 24 points, which featured five three-pointers from 15 attempts.
Import Drake Reed worked his way into the game to get 16 points and 14 boards before his night finished early.
Dan Joyce also scored 14 points and had five assists.
This gives the Miners one win from three games.
