BROWN Hill SB hopes tonight's The Athlete's Foot Cup grand final is a case of third time lucky.
Brown Hill, which finished the Ballarat Netball Association's premier competition undefeated at the end of the home and away season, has lost the past two AFC premiership deciders to tonight's rivals,
Dela Assuntas.
And Brown Hill SB coach Sally McLean is hoping for a change at the top of the tree.
"All credit to them, they've been the powerhouse in the Ballarat Netball Association for many, many years," McLean said.
"It's always great to win a grand final, we'd love to have a win."
But McLean will be without dynamic centre-court player Stacey McCartin, who is overseas, as well as Casey Frame, who failed to qualify for finals.
"We're not playing with a full team but I don't think they are either," McLean said.
"I think it'll be a tough contest all over the court.
"They have got accurate shooters, a very quick centre court and very tall defence. I think whoever is on their game on the night will come out victors."
Despite her team's dominance over the past six seasons, Assuntas coach Jo Dash believes Brown Hill is the logical favourites heading into the match.
"They are the team to beat and we acknowledge that," Dash said.
"We played a really impressive game in the semi-final to overcome Brown Hill. That's the sort of form we're going to have to take into the grand final because we have such respect for them as a group.
"We have worked on blending the new team together. We are fortunate we have such an experienced line-up in the core of the group with Cindy Daniel, Georgia Cann, Melissa Beaston, Kate McLeod and
Amanda Clarke."
Dash expected a high-skilled encounter, that would fall the way of the team that turned in the most consistent display on the night.
"The standard of the game is going to be very, very high and it'll be a delight for spectators," Dash said.
The two teams have met on three occasions throughout 2009, twice in the home and away season and once in the semi-finals. The ledger sits in favour of Brown Hill, 2-1.
A sizzling second term helped Brown Hill to a six-goal success in round four, before securing a three-goal victory in round nine.
It was then Assuntas that turned in one of their best performances just two weeks ago, winning a thrilling semi-final over tonight's rivals in overtime.
There is sure to be some exciting and vital individual clashes between the two teams, including the centre-court battle between Assuntas' Amanda Clarke and Brown Hill's Kara Hart, while accurate
goalers Georgia Cann (Assuntas) and Sue Nalder (Brown Hill) are likely to lead the charge in the circle.
Tonight's AFC grand final will start at 7.45pm, bringing to a close a big night of netball at Ballarat Netball Association's Llanberris headquarters.
The Laffey Shield (premier reserve) will be contested between Sturt White and Wendouree, while the Camera House Trophy (premier reserve two) sees Dela Vixens and Eureka Kools battling out
premiership honours. Both matches start at 6.30pm.
