Norwood cleared of spinal injury

06 Jul, 2009 02:05 PM
BALLARAT MINERS import Rishawn Norwood has been cleared of spinal injury after a heavy fall in an encounter with North West Tasmania in Ballarat on Saturday night.

Norwood was taken to Ballarat Base Hospital for CT scans to his hip and lower back after fears that his South East Australian Basketball League season was over.

He was cleared of any bone damage, but remained in hospital yesterday to be monitored and is likely be released later today.

The game was delayed 40 minutes while Norwood was treated on the court by paramedics in the last quarter.

Norwood had lost his footing while attempting a shot that was blocked with five minutes left on the clock.

He lost feeling in his legs when he landed on his hip.

RetireInvest Ballarat Miners manager Robbie Burns said Norwood had pulled up better than expected yesterday, where he was joking and laughing from his hospital bed.

Burns said Norwood could possibly be back in action in a fortnight.

"We'll wait and see, but he's doubtful this week. He's pretty sore," Burns said.

The shooting-guard had played a starring role in the SEABL game, which the Miners went on to win by nine points.

He had scored 28 points. BJ Carter shot 36 points
