JEANETTE Corley has long had a desire to get her hands on a Ballan Cup. And for good reason.
Until a decade ago, she trained a small team on the old Ballan racecourse.
She went close 13 years ago when Lord Ashley finished third in one of his two starts in the cup.
Although it is 10 years since Corley moved from Gordon to Seymour, her desire to snare the feature remains strong.
She believes Hells Lane might be able to deliver in the $27,000 Neverfail Springs Ballan Cup, 1525 metres, at Geelong today.
Although Hells Lane has raced just once, winning at Sandown Lakeside in April, Corley is confident that the seven-year-old is forward enough with his fitness to win.
Hells Lane has always raced well off breaks - he has won twice and been placed on occasions after being freshened up.
Corley is not too concerned about drawing the outside barrier.
She said with just 51 kilograms on his back, Hells Lane would, as usual, take up a forward position and endeavour to dictate his own terms.
Hells Lane is one of the outsiders, with the Tony Vasil-trained Mr Paparazzi heading the early betting.
Mr Paparazzi is a winner over this distance at Geelong and although well back in the Seymour Cup at his latest start, did finish in the listed Heatherlie Handicap, 1700m, at Caulfield at the end of August.
