DAN O'Sullivan expects to race staying mare Golden Charmer at the Ballarat Cup meeting on Wednesday.
However, the Ballarat trainer is yet to decide whether she will line up in the listed $130,000 Sportsbet.com.au Ballarat Cup, 2200 metres, or a support race.
O'Sullivan is eager to get Golden Charmer back into winning form.
If this means missing the cup, he is prepared to take that course.
Golden Charmer is O'Sullivan's only Ballarat Cup hope.
He was also targeting the improved Theraceison at the race, but he has been sent to the paddock after pulling up sore.
Theraceison was set to line up at Flemington a week ago, but had to be scratched after O'Sullivan discovered filling in a joint.
O'Sullivan said Theraceison had done a great job in a long campaign.
He said the five-year-old was more effective on soft going and would return for the autumn.
A noted frontrunner, Theraceison won three times this preparation - twice in Ballarat.
Golden Charmer has put in some encouraging runs through the spring, but to date, the campaign has been without a win and O'Sullivan wants to turn her fortunes around before she takes a break.
Consequently, he plans to also nominate her for a $50,000 0-78 handicap, 2200m, on cup day and then weigh up the options.
Golden Charmer put in one of her best runs this preparation at her latest outing when seventh to Shocking in the group three Lexus Stakes, 2500m, at Flemington on October 31.
Golden Charmer settled fourth, and after losing ground near the top of the home straight, found a second wind late to be at her strongest on the line.
Ballarat Cup nominations close today.
