POWERFUL in the clubhouse, Sebastopol hopes that victory in Sunday's Ballarat-Geelong premier bowls grand final will earn it the respect it longs for on the greens.
Those are the thoughts of Kookaburras skip Scott Roberts, who was part of the club's last top-16 premiership, in division one, in 2001-2002.
Roberts, who doubles as the club's greenskeeper, said two premier league grand final defeats had left Sebastopol without that big success it has desperately chased.
"When the club got the pokies, they got a few players to boost their ranking and they got us to make premier league," he said.
"We've been there ever since, but it's just going that next step - the club is really keen to get that premier title.
"We've never quite made that extra journey - we've always been so close."
Roberts said the club was proud that it had always been competitive in the region's top pennant competition since making the rise.
"Since we have been in it (premier league), we have been in the finals most years.
"(This year) On paper, we've got an average side, but everyone is very compatible."
Roberts said the added incentive of representing Ballarat at the group pennant titles, and hopefully the state titles, was added motivation for winning Sunday's clash against minor premiers Queenscliff.
"We've always wanted to play in that competition," Roberts said.
"It's definitely a big incentive. We are not really thinking about doing that, but it obliviously in the back of our minds a bit."
Roberts will join Paul Lovell, Noel Sutherland and Brett Forest in Sunday's grand final team - the four are the only remaining bowlers from the division one premiership eight years ago.
They, along with the rest of the supporters who will go to Ocean Grove this weekend, are hoping they can replicate the results of that memorable day against Mt Xavier and help the Kookaburras soar to the top of the pile.
"We have got a good mix of youth and experience. We picked up a guy from Melbourne last year, who was a good pick up.
"We haven't finished any lower than fifth since we have been in it (premier league)."
